On June 26, 43 years of Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi Emergency was imposed in the country for 21 months. The opposition has been keeping the Congress on this issue till date. On Tuesday, the BJP is celebrating this day as a black day. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has three consecutive tweets about it. He saluted those who had shown courage during that time.
In the first tweet, PM Narendra Modi saluted the people who oppose the Emergency: “I salute the courage of women and men who strongly opposed the emergency, which was imposed 43 years ago. Their struggles retained the power of the people due to authoritarianism and civil liberties.
In the second tweet, the PM termed the Emergency as a black time, “India remembers Emergency as a dark time where every institute is pressed and an atmosphere of fear has been created. Not only people, but ideas and artistic independence were taken hostage for political power.
In the third tweet, PM Modi urged the Republic to strengthen – “Let us all work together to strengthen our democratic faith.” Writing, debating, thinking, questioning are important aspects of our democracy, which we are proud of. No power can ever reduce the fundamental principles of our Constitution.
