In a setback to the Samajwadi Party, Neeraj Shekhar, party MP and son of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, on Monday resigned from the Rajya Sabha.
Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu accepted the resignation of Mr Shekhar, sources said, adding that Shekhar was upset with the party over denial of ticket from Balia, a traditional seat of his family, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
In 2007, Neeraj Shekhar was elected to the Lok Sabha from Balia seat, which fell vacant the death of his father.
Sources said that he is likely to join BJP.
